La Nappe Bleue/ The Blue Tablecloth

Je me souviens de cette nappe bleue, au demeurant fort banale, en coton, avec un motif exotique. Elle a du finir en chiffon! Ce tableau l'a sublimée, de la même manière qu'elle soulignait le caractère exceptionnel, des repas où elle apparaissait....Repas de fête ou réception d'invités; la nappe contribuait, un peu, à nous extraire de la banale monotonie du quotidien!

I remember this blue tablecloth, moreover very banal, cotton, with an exotic pattern. She must have ended up in a rag! This table sublimated her, in the same way that it emphasized the exceptional character of the meals where she appeared .... Festive meal or reception of guests; the tablecloth helped, a little, to extract us from the banal monotony of everyday life!
